About Teglbakken

Light, air, and safe spaces both inside and outside

Those are the key terms describing the 166 rental homes in Teglbakken. Here, you’ll find bright, modern apartments of 62-102 square meters with 2-4 rooms. Constructed and decorated with the focus on sustainability that the times demand.

Everyone has a private space outside, either in the form of a terrace, a large balcony, or a rooftop terrace. If you feel the need for company, you’ll easily find it in the beautiful common areas with a playground, an outside kitchen, and an orangery.

Right next to Teglbakken, you’ll find one of the most modern schools in the country – Læringshus Nærheden. Via the newly constructed footbridge over the railway tracks, you’re only a few steps away from sports and cultural facilities, an urban atmosphere, and shopping at Hedehusene. And if that’s not enough, you can get to both Roskilde and Copenhagen K by train in a matter of minutes. If you’re driving yourself, you’ll enjoy the free parking facilities nearby.

However, arguably the best part of living and growing up in Teglbakken is that you get to be a part of the new neighbourhood, Nærheden, while simultaneously having easy access to amazing open areas of nature.

The Architecture

Three types of bricks, scale, and variation

The name “Teglbakken” is a tribute to the old brickyard, Hedehus-Teglværket, which was located in this exact location from 1896 until 1970. It was constructed by F.L. Schmidt, and for years the yard was the biggest employer in the area. Millions and millions of bricks were produced from locally sourced clay and gravel from the area around Hedehusene. The nature areas around Teglbakken are partly shaped by the brickyard’s many years of extraction of natural resources.

Great variation in the construction

Sweco Architects, who designed Teglbakken, have ensured great variation in the building with various details in the facade and displacements that evoke a unique impression while complementing the building’s inner gardens and surrounding landscape. To make this happen, three different kinds of bricks have been used, partly as a tribute to the old brickyard and partly as a beautiful contribution to the aspired variation. Moreover, brick is a strong and tactile material that will patinate gracefully. With a few variations in brick placements and sealant, the facades become lively but still contribute to the impression of a connected whole.

A modern construction

Teglbakken was designed to create a modern building that will serve as a perfect setting for community and informal encounters between neighbours. Here is a close connection between home, garden, and nature. The project benefits from its location on the sunny side of Nærheden, and the plantation with bushes of apples, red currants, cherries, and dog rose improve the area’s biodiversity while creating space and connection between the buildings, the landscape, and the area’s residents. The objective is to make Teglbakken a place where you’ll enjoy living.

The Area

Nærheden – a new suburb

Teglbakken is a part of Nærheden. A brand-new neighbourhood being developed in the coming years with the purpose of improving the local quality of life based on values like sustainability, community, and easy and safe living. Everything you’ll need is literally nearby. Employers, institutions, a brand-new school, sports facilities, shopping, a train station, safe traffic conditions, and free parking facilities for the local residents are all within close proximity.

Nærheden is a neighbourhood with close connections to nature.

The entire area is encircled by a green belt called the Loop. Here, you can go for a long walk or run and enjoy the rich population of plants and birds. All of this will be right outside your door, and close by you’ll also find Hedeland Nature Park. More than just a place of marvellous nature, the park offers a variety of activities, including a golf course, a nature playground, and, during the winter, a 300-meter ski slope.
